Cooperation can be complex;
our job is to make it easier.

A Better Cooperation Governance (ISO1)

What are the common complaints we hear in our countries? Bureaucracy, inefficient administration, policies that don’t reflect everyday life, difficulties in border regions, and low trust in institutions. And it becomes even more complex when several regions from different countries try to make and implement joint decisions about it.

How do we deal with this? How do we improve the administrative efficiency? What kind of processes, tools, skills do the institutions need to work best and meet their core functions? Such challenges require cooperation across borders and sharing of experiences, practices and potential solutions. No single programme can fix these problems alone, but by working together, we can make real progress. Long-term collaboration between programmes will lead to meaningful results and pave the way for future improvements.

Who is this network for

This community is for representatives from Interreg programmes working on cooperation governance challenges. We also actively involve EU institutions to ensure the discussions have a broad impact.

What are we working on

In 2026, we will focus on showcasing how ISO1 supports stronger cooperation governance and sustainable cross-border solutions. Through a series of thematic webinars, we will explore how Interreg programmes use ISO1 to strengthen cooperation structures, address cross-border obstacles and support the development of cross-border public services. Each webinar will highlight practical experiences from Interreg programmes, bringing together programme representatives and experts to exchange insights and lessons learned from the current programming period.

Alongside these exchanges, we will prepare a set of communication materials, including publications, infographics and articles, complemented by a social media campaign. These materials will present key examples and messages emerging from ISO1 implementation and help share governance solutions across the Interreg community.
