Communication rules
The rules of communication in Interreg are set out in the wider regulations governing Interreg and EU funds.
Interact promotes the exchange of experiences and solution finding between programmes on the practical application of the rules, which have additional focus in the 2021-2027 period as financial penalties for non-compliance have been introduced.
Where to start
A certified training on the 'Fundamentals of programme communication' has launched, with new editions each year. In addition to a wide range of communication topics, it will also cover the key communication requirements as set out in the regulation. The certified training takes three weeks of commitment and usually takes place during late spring each year, while the registrations are opened a few months prior to that.
The publication of the Articles most impacting communication is available to read and offers a quick reference guide to the most important articles in the three regulations. Of course, before relying on anything, you should check the regulation directly!
Presentation from ICON further explored communication and Operations of Strategic Importance.
Presentation from IKF session dedicated to communication post-27 provided an overview of expected changes to programme communication.
What we are working on
An event explored the application of Article 36, financial penalties, for communication.
Communication rules within the new regulatory framework (post-27) will be discussed during the ICON (Interreg Annual Communication Network Meeting) in June 2026.
