The Border Focal Point Network, coordinated by DG REGIO, has opened applications for the fourth edition of its Cross-Border Ambassadors programme. Up to 10 young people will be selected for a mandate running from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

The commitment is around two days per month. Ambassadors attend monthly online meetings with DG REGIO and the Border Focal Point Network team, contribute to the network's communication work on Futurium, social media and the newsletter, and choose at least one personal activity: a short video, a podcast episode on youth and cross-border cooperation, a local event or cultural exchange in a border region, or a short report with policy recommendations. They can also take part in the Beyond Borders breakfast debates and work with other EU youth initiatives.

Applicants must be aged 18 to 30, live in an EU Member State or an EFTA country, have a strong connection to a border region, and be fluent in English. The application consists of a motivation letter of 500 words maximum and a video of two minutes maximum, submitted through the EU Survey form. Candidates are assessed on their engagement in cross-border activities, their problem-solving, their storytelling, and their commitment to European values.

Shortlisting takes place in early September and successful candidates are contacted by 24 September. All Ambassadors receive a Certificate of Completion signed by DG REGIO.

Most of the Interreg community is outside the age range for this call, but programmes are well placed to reach those who are not. Youth organisations, universities and local partners in border regions are the obvious relays.

Applications close on 31 August 2026.
