Survey Launch: Mapping Tourism in Interreg Programmes
14 January 26 3 mins read
Tourism represents one of the most dynamic and consistently expanding sectors within Interreg, playing a crucial role in driving socio-economic development, creating jobs, and improving infrastructure across European regions. With international tourist arrivals projected to reach 1.8 billion by 2030, Interreg's role in steering tourism growth towards sustainable and balanced development has become increasingly critical.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of our collective impact, Interact is launching a survey designed to map the current state of tourism within Interreg programmes. All programme colleagues are warmly invited to share their experiences and insights, contributing to a fuller picture of how tourism projects are being implemented today and how we can better address emerging challenges.
The importance of your participation
While tourism delivers significant benefits, a growing number of destinations face challenges such as overtourism, which can negatively impact both residents' quality of life and visitors' experiences. Your contribution will help:
- Develop a clear overview of the current tourism landscape across Interreg programmes
- Identify common challenges and good practices in tourism-related cooperation
- Support strategic thinking and evidence-based planning for the future of tourism within Interreg
Survey information
The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete and focuses on tourism projects in the current 2021–2027 programming period, while also inviting reflections on past experiences and future perspectives for 2027 and beyond. For the purpose of this survey, a "tourism project" refers to any cooperation project that supports the development or transformation of tourism through cross-border or transnational collaboration.
Deadline: 28 February
Your input will be instrumental in defining a sustainable roadmap for tourism within Interreg, ensuring that tourism continues to be a positive force for both local communities and visitors.
