Interact works not just with Interreg programmes, but with 'other cooperation actors'. This group includes those working in regional programmes who are seeking to cooperate over borders, to create practical solutions to the barriers they face.

Interact hosted a workshop in 2025, which brought together regional programme managers, policymakers, and cooperation experts. The event gave them space to discuss the successful implementation of cooperation actions in the 2021-2027 programming period.

While they enjoyed interesting discussions and fruitful exchanges, we made the most of the moment to capture video testimonies, where participants shared their firsthand experiences with cooperation actions.

These interviews offer valuable insights into:

  • Combining Interreg and regional programme funding for maximum impact
  • Designing calls that complement cross-border initiatives
  • Attracting and managing international partnerships
  • Key success factors for cooperation beyond borders

We hope the insights shared offer guidance and encouragement to all regions still developing their cooperation action strategies, as they approach the mid-term review.

We are grateful to Sandra Jorge (Alentejo), Tiago Teotónio Pereira (Alentejo 2030), Marko Opančar and Filip Miličević (Croatia) and Murad Bicici (East Netherlands) for sharing their experiences.
