Navigating Project Closure
Project closure is an important point for programmes to take stock of what projects have achieved, what is expected to continue beyond the funding period, and what can be learned for future programme implementation. At the same time, programmes need to manage the administrative aspects of closure in an efficient and proportionate way.
As increasing numbers of Interreg projects approach closure, programmes are facing a range of practical and strategic questions:
- How to define and assess whether projects have successfully achieved their objectives and expected results at closure, particularly where results or outcomes are less tangible?
- How to support and assess the durability of project results?
- How to ensure proportionate closure procedures that provide assurance on achievements without creating unnecessary administrative burden?
- How can lessons from project closure and final reporting be used to strengthen programme implementation and inform preparations for post-2027?
This event will provide an opportunity for programmes to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and explore practical approaches.
The discussion will cover not only administrative aspects of closure, but more importantly how programmes can support result durability, smooth final reporting, communication, learning, capitalisation and ownership of project achievements beyond the funding period.
The event is primarily intended for MA/JS staff involved in project closure and related support processes, but also is of interest to colleagues working with monitoring, programme learning and approaches to facilitate the durability of project results.
To ensure that the event reflects the needs and priorities of programmes, participants are invited to complete a short survey during registration to identify the preferred format for the event (in person or online), the most relevant topics, challenges and good practices.
The event is currently planned as a 1.5-day in-person exchange on 16–17 November (location TBC). However, we would first like to understand participants’ preferred format and priority topics.
Based on the registration survey, the event will be organised either in person (1.5 days) or as a focused online workshop (approximately 3 hours) on the same dates. The final format and agenda will be confirmed in mid-September.
Please note that registrations will therefore be approved only after the final format has been confirmed.
