The Interact Programming Committee met in Bratislava for its second meeting on the future Interact V programme, for the 2028-2034 period.

One key discussion was on the future of Jems, with the Programming Committee giving a first go-ahead on the preparation to renew the software for the next period. There are several more steps along the road to a future monitoring system, including agreements needed on the scope and budget. These topics will be discussed again in future meetings. For now, Interact has the in-principle decision to seek to offer the harmonised monitoring software in the next period. Currently Jems supports more than 50% of Interreg programmes, and is available on a free-license basis to all Interreg programmes.

A further discussion asked the Managing Authority to open discussions with candidate countries interested in joining the future programme. Currently 29 countries (EU27, plus Norway and Switzerland) participate in the programme, and several candidate countries have expressed an interest in joining the programming committee and the future programme. The Programming Committee will discuss options, following exchanges between the current programme and the interested parties, in a future meeting.

In other agenda items, the Programming Committee exchanged information on the future regulations, began to exchange on the needs of Interreg in the future, which forms the basis of the orientation of Interact in the next period. The Committee also updated its rules of procedures, following discussions in the first meeting, and agreed the basis of the approach to drafting the new programme – giving the responsibility to the existing Interact Managing Authority and Interact Offices to proceed.
